Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God—what is good and well-pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2
New English Translation
Did you know that everything you do transforms you into something? The music you listen to changes the way you view life and morality. It causes you to desire the things the music sings about. The friends that you hang out with affect what you want to do, what you say, the movies you watch, the music you listen to, your perception of right and wrong. The movies you watch add notes to how you view certain people and situations. Video games can change your perspective on violence even!
Everything you do transforms you into a new person.
That means you need to be asking yourself, what am I letting transform me? You have two choices in this department, either you let the world transform you or God transform you. Just take a minute and think about what you’ve watched and listened to and done recently. What values were those moments teaching you? Did they have a godly sense of morality or a worldly view of morality?
See, a lot of times people think that because they know what is right they can watch, do, and listen to whatever they want and it doesn’t make a difference. However, that’s not true because as you do those things more and more they begin to set root in your heart. Whatever takes root in your heart grows and bears fruit.
What fruit are you bearing in your life?
It’s important to examine every area of your life and determine what roots you are nurturing and growing in your life. What are ways that you can develop godly roots in your life and bear godly fruit?
Reading your Bible – Listening to Christian music – Spending your time with people who also seek godly fruits in their life.
Anything that directs your mind toward what God says and what He teaches builds good fruit! I encourage you to take some time today and very intentionally think about what you are pouring into your heart. Also, ask yourself, who do I want to be? Are the things you’re doing encouraging growth into that? I’m excited for you to step into all that God has for you as you take these steps toward Him!
