He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds,
New English Translation
crushed because of our sins;
he endured punishment that made us well;
because of his wounds we have been healed. Isaiah 53:5
Healing. Have you ever experienced it or seen it happen? I have. Multiple times. It’s crazy because there are people who like to claim that Jesus doesn’t do that kind of thing any more, but I’m living proof He does do that kind of thing still.
When I was around seven-years-old, I was diagnosed with a severe heart murmur and told I could never dance again nor do anything that would put strain on my heart. After having the entire church pray over me, we went to my next heart appointment and the hole in my heart was gone and I’ve danced ever since.
When I was about fourteen I fell off my pointe shoes during dance class and hurt my ankle. The likelihood of my ankle being broken was 98% and the swelling was helping that case. After my ankle was prayed over, the swelling went drastically down and it was only a sprang.
When I was seventeen my peanut allergy was healed, but it returned again within a year and a half. After praying over my then more severe food allergies, all went away and I’ve been able to enjoy those foods ever since.
When I was about twelve my beloved dog was diagnosed with a heart murmur. I prayed over her and asked others to pray over her too. After that, not only was the hole in her heart gone but it was removed from her old x-rays.
There are so many more healings that I’ve seen, but that’s not the point.
People keep trying to belittle Jesus by saying there are things He either can’t or won’t do any more. How dare anyone think they have the right to declare what He can and can’t do. He’s our Savior! We have no power over Him. Plus, if He “doesn’t do that anymore,” then what’s the difference between Him and all the false gods? I mean really, once we start taking away Jesus’ ability to interact with us, what makes Him Him anymore?
Yes, some people don’t get healed in the way we want. I’m not denying that. However, when you ask for a Christian to be fully healed, where does a Christian become fully healed? Stop saying God didn’t listen to you when He answered your prayers by bringing them home and bringing them complete healing! I agree, it hurts when we lose someone we really love, but God isn’t stealing someone from you. He’s protecting that person from the pain in the world, bringing them into perfect peace.
I’m not saying we can’t grieve. Grieving is perfectly normal, I’ve grieved, Jesus grieved (John 11:35). I’m saying, in the grieiving process recognize that God has answered your prayers. It’s hard, I understand that, but we have to be willing to see what God is doing rather than what we wanted done. Healing doesn’t happen on our terms. Nothing God does happens on our terms. That’s important to remember.
My challenge to you is this, do you believe God is a healer? Have you seen Him heal before and just didn’t believe it? Whether you make a habit of seeing what He does or you want to start, I encourage you to pray the following prayer with me:
God, I’m sorry for the many times I’ve missed what you’ve done in my life. Help me to remember that you’re always moving in and around me, and help me to understand what you are capable of doing. Give me your understanding so I can rejoice in what you’ve done and are doing. Amen
