Losing Sight of Victory

The moment was great! God had moved and He had done great things. It seemed like nothing could go wrong in that moment… until the moment ended at least.

What situation was I referring to? The Israelites after they have left Egypt and crossed the Red Sea. Remember the parting of the Red Sea? That was nothing short of amazing. Once again, God proved His perfect timing. He opened the sea just long enough for the Israelites to cross and then wiped out Pharoah’s entire army at just the right time. Right after that the Israelites were singing and praising. Their enthusiasm was all because of God’s victory. Why did their praise stop? What changed?

If you remember, their praise was traded for complaining. They weren’t happy the drinking water wasn’t good, so they lost sight of God’s victory for them. They instantly wanted to rebel. How sad is that? One thing isn’t what they expected and everything falls apart. How often do we do that, though? I can name about three times I’ve done that today.

How can we stop this vicious cycle of victory and dissatisfaction? Dare I say it’s easy? All we have to do is keep our perspective in check. Focus on the victory instead of the failures. Keep reminding yourself of what God has done instead of what hasn’t happened. See what He is doing around you.

To do this, we will have to intentionally look for what He is doing around us. We don’t do this naturally so we need to train ourselves to do this. It is very important that we keep praising God instead of complaining. That way, we can keep the victory.
